The fireworks plus the bonfire is related to a guy named Guy Fawkes. In Britain 5th November is also known as Bonfire Night. It is a usual practice that “The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire” (www.bonfirenight.net, 2008). Atuk Hajah Jijah

I took this photo of Atuk Hajah Jijah (atuk:great-grandparent) today during my Hari Raya visit to her house today in Sebakit Bawah Tanjong Maya.She is the sister of my late Atuk Haji Zainal (Al-Fatihah). We pay regular visit to her when it comes to Hari Raya. As usual, she was delighted to see us especially my father.I was told that my father used to grow up  at her place when he was a mere child together with my late uncle, Amit Kia and other relatives. I was told I was babysitted there too when I was small. Of course, her place which displays authentic Bruneian architecture still caught my admiration till today. I always love it to be there. It remind me of my childhood memories

Kurma

I just love to eat dates or what we usually refer as ‘kurma’ . Whilst, some people are creative in varying ways to enjoy dates like kurma fritters or ‘cucur kurma’ I just stick to eat them just as they are. Alhamdulillah, in Brunei Darussalam all muslim are blessed to received a container of dates each from our beloved monarch in the occasion of Ramadhan. I usually ran out of them  even before we reach the 15th of Ramadhan. Hehe. So, I usually go for the Jordan Hayany or Mazefatti (spelling?) for my supply not only for sungkai but also for sahur.

Now, Ramadhan is over, I’m sure it will be missed. Not just the kurma but a lot more of far more important things that go with Ramadhan. Till we meet again Ramadhan. Insya-Allah…

It was taken during my last tour to Kampung Ayer with my family.  We rented a water taxi which belongs to the cousin of my Bungsu Haji. It rained at first but we were in luck that the rained ceased by the time were about to start our tour. The main tour guide is my own Bungsu Haji who decided to go with us on the eleventh hour. Hehe. They took us to towards the bridge at Sungai Kedayan then Jong Batu and then snaking through the many kampongs until we reached Kampong Bolkiah A and Kampong Bolkiah B. The best BND30 for 2 hours tour of Kampung Ayer ever!

There are a couple of things to share here. My teaching practice ended last May and thus, marked the completion of my study. Some time later, the overall result and final classification were out. Alhamdulillah, now I’m eagerly waiting for the long-awaited-moment. It is never to late to say congratulations to all of my friends and coursemates upon completing the years of education with flying colours. All of the hardwork paid off.
